Gala
Art Auction to
Benefit
the
Moncton Public
Library
The gallery of the Moncton Public Library
has been supporting emerging artists since 1989.
When the Library Board decided to
organize a fundraising event, the idea of an art auction came
naturally to them. The need of the Moncton Public Library,
like many other libraries in Canada, has surpassed available
government funding. Therefore, the Library has had to find
effective methods to raise funds that will supplement the
available funding. The
funds that will be collected from this event will allow the Library
to continue to develop its free accessible collection for
benefit all the residents of the province.
The Magnum Opus Gala Art Auction in 2008 was resounding success.
With nearly 250 patrons and artists in attendance, the auction
raised more than $21,000 for the Moncton Public
Library.
The Gala is
excited to announce that 22 artists have been confirmed for this
year's art auction. They are: Georges Goguen, Nicole Haché,
Jeanne LeBlanc Mullin, Amber Lounder, Dave Skyrie, Joan Gregory,
Herménégilde Chiasson, Mario Cyr, Paul Édouard
Bourque, Shayla Perreault-Newcomb, Dianne Ryan, Jules Landry,
Josette Mallet, Marc Blanchard, Jennifer Evans, Joël Culligan,
Pamela Carr, Michiko Nishijima, Luc A. Charette, Cecil D. Long,
Grace Ward and Raymonde Fortin. The art works are
displayed at the Moncton Public Library until October 24,
2009.
